Let's build a website: your first steps in order
Start with a simple page, then ask for complete help if you need it.

Let's start building a website! You only need a plain-text editor and a browser to make your first page.
1. Decide what your site is for
Write down who it helps and what it should do. Start with one page.

2. Create the file
Make a folder and save a plain-text file named index.html in it, using VS Code or another text editor.
3. Write your first page
Paste this code into the file and save it:
<!doctype html>
<html lang="en">
<head>
<meta charset="utf-8">
<meta name="viewport" content="width=device-width, initial-scale=1">
<title>My first website</title>
</head>
<body>
<h1>Welcome to my website</h1>
<p>This is my first page.</p>
</body>
</html>
4. Open and test it
Open index.html in your browser. Save edits and refresh to see them. The page is on your device for now; you must publish it before others can visit it online.
5. What's next?
HTML structures content, CSS styles it, and JavaScript adds interaction. Change the text, then learn each part at your own pace.
